Hospice Cup’s Board of Directors
Hospice Cup’s Board of Directors is a passionate crew committed to raising funds for the awareness of hospice. They meet monthly to plan and organize the many Hospice Cup events throughout the year culminating with the race and shore party in the third week of September.

What made you want to get involved with Hospice Cup? – My grandfather died in hospice care and it was the most beautiful death I’ve been a part of. Hospice care is such a gift to everyone involved. I’ve raced in the Hospice Cup for many years, I’ve represented our area at the Hospice National Championships, I love running regattas, and I have a background in fund raising. At this point in my life, I have the time and energy to bring all these things together by getting more involved in the Hospice Cup organization!
Favorite Vacation Spot – I’m lucky to have traveled to a lot of fascinating places, and I think three of my favorites for relaxing are Bermuda, made even better after the Newport-Bermuda Race, cruising the coast of Maine, and cruising the BVIs.
Where could we find you in your free time? – Reading a book while on the hook in a quiet creek or cove, racing sailboats, enjoying the company of my husband and sons, or riding a bike.

What made you want to get involved with Hospice Cup? – The hospice care programs that the Cup supports offer compassion, dignity, and a dedication to quality of life for those in our community facing the challenges of serious illness and end-of-life. I’m really proud to be a part of that impactful work. I’m also a sailor, and Hospice Cup (along with the party that follows) is my favorite local racing event of the year.
Favorite Vacation Spot – I love traveling to new destinations, but if I had to pick a few places to visit again, I’d return to the Pacific Northwest, the South of France, and the Caribbean.
Where could we find you in your free time? – Sailing of course! Or working on improvements and restoration to my 1975 Alberg 30 sloop.
Christine Lasser
What made you want to get involved with Hospice Cup? – My father was under Hospice care in 2010 and my family and I were so impressed with the services that Hospice provided for our entire family, I knew I had to give back! Also, as my husband is an avid racer and as a family we are cruisers, Hospice Cup was the perfect combo to give back to something I was passionate about!
Favorite Vacation Spot – So hard because I love all things travel, but BVIs especially Bitter End Yacht Club holds a special place.
Where could we find you in your free time? – Sipping a nice Pinot Noir and enjoying a charcuterie tray I created while spending time with my crew (three kids under 6)!
David Mencarini
What made you want to get involved with Hospice Cup? – I initially got involved with Hospice Cup because a friend’s mother who I knew well was cared for by Hospice of the Chesapeake (HOC). A few years later HOC provided excellent care to my mother-in-law in our home and I was so impressed by the support and guidance given to my wife and I.
Favorite Vacation Spot – The best vacation trip I have ever taken was to Florence, Italy and Paris, France. Two must-see European cities.
Where could we find you in your free time? – You can generally find me reading a book, listening to music or working outside in my yard.

What made you want to get involved with Hospice Cup? – Wonderful care for deceased daughter by Montgomery Hospice.
Favorite Vacation Spot – Amelia Island, Florida… and I live there!
Where could we find you in your free time? – Hiking or on my boat.
Kelly Silard
What made you want to get involved with Hospice Cup? – Hospice came into our lives in July of 2021 to help care for my Dad. We had no idea what to expect and quickly realized Hospice is not just for the ill but for the families as well. The local caregivers in Annapolis were exceptionally kind and helpful at the end his life and helped us navigate un-chartered waters. I want to give back to a group of professional caregivers so that they can continue their wonderful work.
Favorite Vacation Spot – Amalfi Coast, Italy
Where could we find you in your free time? – On the Chesapeake Bay boating, fishing, swimming.
