What is the Junior Regatta?
The Junior Regatta was started in 2009 as a way for the younger generation to participate. In 2009 the Junior Regatta had 16 racers, ages 10-16 who competed in teams of 4 aboard Optimist Dinghies.

I'm a sailor; Can I participate in the Hospice Cup?
Clubs and crews have the opportunity to compete on the race course, but also for trophies for the
most funds raised that will be awarded at the post-race Shore Party.
Make this year the year that you and your crew get more involved by joining the Hospice Cup crew or club fundraising effort.
Who can enter the race? Anyone with a sailboat that fits into one of the classes of boats that are scheduled to race.
- Sailors who do not usually race should enter the special Hospice Class.
- Each boat registering for the race must provide a PHRF rating. If unable to do so, please contact your club organizer or the Shearwater Sailing Club for assistance.
- Each class has a different starting time, which will be specified in the Sailing Instructions, and each class is scored separately.

I have a boat, but have never raced, can I still participate?
Hospice Cup offers a unique race option for people who sail, but do not usually race. The Hospice Class is a non-spinnaker class in which racers are given specific instructions on safe racing. In 2009 we had 25 boats registered in the Hospice Class. Hospice Class skippers can also take hospice caregivers aboard as crew and we offer two trophies specifically for Hospice Class boats who carry caregivers.
Where does the event take place?
The regatta takes place on the Chesapeake Bay off the mouth of the Severn River and is a highlight of the area’s racing season, counting for the CBYRA season-long High Point competition.
The Shore Party is at a nearby, waterfront location.
How do I register to race?
Go to our registration page and fill out the registration form. Once you submit payment you will receive a confirmation e-mail letting you know we have received your form. Check back often to get up-to-date racing instructions.
Can I register offline?
Yes, simply log onto www.shearwatersc.org, find "hospice cup", download the form, complete it and send it to the address listed on the form. You can also contact the race director at info@shearwatersc.org
Can I help Hospice Cup Raise Funds?
Yes! and we make it easy! Go to www.firstgiving.com/hospicecup and create your own personal web page. Then, send the link out to all your friends, neighbors, co-workers, family etc. Every little bit counts! BONUS-For every $150 you raise, you get 1 ticket to the Shore Party.
New for 2011--- Firstgiving allows the donor to pay the administration fees on their donation, so 100% of your friends' donations can go to hospices.

I'm a hospice, how can I participate?
Hospice who wish to participate in the Hospice Cup are required to be non-profit, 501(c)3 organizations, and must be members of the NHPCO. For more information, contact us at info@hospicecup.org
What is Hospice Cup?
Hospice Cup is a one-day sailing regatta that offers racers the choice of a competitive, high-point earning race or a more relaxed, non-spinnaker race. After the race head over the Shore Party to meet and congratulate the sailors, learn about hospice in your area, and enjoy the great views, awesome food and fun live entertainment.
This race is the local qualifying event for the National Hospice Regatta Championship--the first national championship ever offered in the field of charity regattas.

Hospice Cup's mission is to raise funds for and awareness of hospice care for participating, non-profit hospices in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, DC.

How do I become a sponsor?
Hospice Cup, Inc. strives to provide sponsor benefits and packages that best fit your contribution needs. Sponsoring Hospice Cup puts you in front of thousands of people. Our participating hospices cover Anne Arundel County, Montgomery County, Northern Virginia, Maryland's Eastern Shore, Prince George’s County and Washington, DC. While our Shore party event typically draws 500-700 guests from all over the region, your exposure extends to staff, caregivers, volunteers and families of the hospices as well as sailors, and the general public.

The Shore Party is at a nearby location on the banks of Back Creek. For 2011 the Shore party is at Annapolis Sailing School on Back Creek. Ideal for its water access, spectacular views and plenty of room for all the sailors and sponsors!
I would like to volunteer, where do I sign up?
Hospice Cup relies on the generosity of its many volunteers to run a smooth and successful event. You can sign-up to be a volunteer at www.hospicecup.org/volunteer or, simply send an e-mail to info@hospicecup.org and we will be in contact to get you set up as a volunteer.
Where do the funds raised for Hospice Cup go?
Funds raised on behalf of the Hospice Cup event support the participating hospices and help pay the expenses not covered by Medicare or private insurance. These dollars enable the hospices to provide skilled compassionate care, comfort and dignity to the terminally ill, their families and friends. Hospice enables patients to carry on their lives so their last days may be spent in comfort, at home or in home-like settings. Hospice care concentrates on care, not cure. Bereavement counseling and support groups are part of hospice services after the loss of a loved one.

How are funds distrubuted to the hospices?
Hospice Cup, Inc. is a 501(c)3 organization that raises funds for hospice care. Funds raised through Hospice Cup are distributed to participating hospices after the event. Each hospice works to raise funds for their own program while Hospice Cup seeks corporate sponsorships and donations to cover event expenses first, then distributes excess funds based on participation.
