Hospice Cup, Inc.  Announces New Category for Juniors
Junior Regatta to bring greater awareness about hospice to area junior sailors

This year, the first ever Hospice Cup Junior Regatta will be featured as part of the annual Hospice Cup Regatta, and will include 16 of the top performing junior racers from around the Chesapeake Bay region, competing in teams aboard Optimist sailing dinghies. Each participating sailor will be invited based on those with the highest points around the Chesapeake Bay.

“These young sailors will bring a unique addition to Hospice Cup, stated Brien Jones-Lantzy, Hospice Cup board member and co-chair of the junior regatta event, “Juniors are the future of this sport and exemplify the need for events of this nature.”

One of the missions of CBYRA is to promote youth sailing and racing on the Bay, and to provide a safe instructional arena for the racers of tomorrow. This all-new Hospice Cup Junior Regatta will assist in promoting awareness of the greater mission of Hospice Cup to an audience whom might not have intimate experience with hospice.

The event, scheduled for Saturday, September 26, 2009, is supported by a number of sailing organizations in the Annapolis area including the Chesapeake Bay Yacht Racing Association (CBYRA) and the United States Naval Academy Sailing Squadron (NASS), as the volunteer race committee for the Junior Regatta. Additionally, headline sponsorship of this event will be on behalf of Verizon.

This all-day event will begin at 10:00am with pre-race coaching and practice for the junior sailors. The Hospice Cup Junior Regatta races will be held from 4:00 – 5:30 pm. Spectators will be able to watch the Junior Regatta from the Shore Party location taking place at the Atria Manresa located on the Severn River. Awards for the Junior Regatta will be awarded during the feature trophy ceremony for the Hospice Cup XXVIII.
